“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies”George R. R. Martin – Writer
So early on in my 20s, I found that the more I learnt about the world and myself, the less I knew. There were essential life skills that every person should have in order to negotiate the challenges we all inevitably face, and these skills were barely given a mention during my school and undergrad years. Whether thats having a basic understanding of my own personality, navigating the human relations, or even managing your personal finances, modern schooling doesn’t really prepare you for the real world. I was pretty book smart. But thats it.
I realised pretty quick (and after a few harsh lessons) that I’ve got a long way to go. Unfortunately, there wasn’t and online course or nanodegree around that teaches a person how to get better at those things.
Determinedly, I set out to address the gaps in my own knowledge, skills and experience. That’s when I discovered reading.
It all started with a book that, no doubt, many of you would’ve had at least heard about, if not read – How To Win Friends and Influence People, by the late great, Dale Carnegie.
That was around six years ago, and was the beginning of my love of reading, and my journey towards a better understanding of myself and this ever-complex world we all live in.
Each writer lent me a new perspective on things that eluded me. I started seeing the world around me differently, one page at a time.
Now, I don’t want to give the impression that I’ve got it all figured out. Far from it. But what I can say is that I’m much better off today than I would’ve been had I not picked up HTWFAIP all those years ago.
To put it simply, you don’t know what you don’t know. And more importantly, you can’t fix a problem if you don’t know it exists.
So, in this blog, I want to share my love of reading and self-development with everyone. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on different works, my notes and reviews so that maybe I can help someone out there who is facing the same challenges as I. It also combines two of my greatest passions – reading and writing – into one convenient medium.
I truly believe the world can be found in pages left behind by the greatest minds in history, you just need to keep looking
Thank you for visiting my blog and please get in touch. Nothing beats a good conversation, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
